Über mich
Since 2007 I've been working on the synthesis, characterization, testing and processing of lignocellulosic biomass based polymeric materials in addition to biomass conversion processes including pretreatment and hydrolysis. My studies focus on the utilization of cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin for the co-production of fermentable sugars and sustainable polymeric materials in a 2nd generation biorefinery framework. I have developed novel processes on the extrusion and 3D printing of lignocellulosic biomass based polymers, created an original procedure to enhance the integrity and mechanical properties of biodegradable water soluble films with oxygen barrier property and demonstrated the importance of biomass particle size prior to pretreatment with respect to different ionic liquids, all of which were published in top-tier journals. https://www.linkedin.com/in/erinc-bahcegul/ https://scholar.google.com.tr/citations?user=6BPmQVMAAAAJ&hl=en

Assistant Professor of Bioengineering
Konya Food and Agriculture University
- Synthesis, characterization and processing of biodegradable polymers from lignocellulosic biomass such as corn stover and cob, cotton stalk and sunflower stalk by various techniques including 3D printing, twin-screw extrusion and solvent casting. - Casting hemicellulose and lignin based biodegradable water-soluble films that can be used as oxygen barrier materials and coatings for food packaging. - Ionic liquid treatment of lignocellulosic biomass for the generation of biomass-derived materials.
1 Jahr und 3 Monate, Sep. 2013 - Nov. 2014
Postdoctoral Research Associate
Middle East Technical University (METU)
- Developed an original process on the extrusion of hemicellulose and lignin biopolymers extracted from lignocellulose. - Found that some salts resulting from the alkaline extraction and neutralization process can be beneficial for polymer film formation - Wrote a grant proposal on the extrusion of lignocellulosic agricultural waste based polymers, which was accepted and funded by The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey. - Laboratory management and supervision of Ph.D./MSc students.
4 Jahre und 1 Monat, Sep. 2009 - Sep. 2013
Research Assistant
Middle East Technical University (METU)
- Evaluated the alkaline extraction parameters with a novel multi-product 2nd generation biorefinery approach that focuses on the co-production of fermentable sugars and polymer films. - Showed that the ideal particle size of biomass prior to pretreatment with respect to enzymatic hydrolysis efficiency may change from one ionic liquid to another - Inventor in an international patent application on antimicrobial films containing titanium dioxide nanoparticles based on lignocellulosic biopolymers.
