Carsten Wachholz

Together with the WWF Co-Lead, I am responsible for developing a newly formed team of the secretariat for the Business Coalition for a Global Plastics Treaty, shaping its strategy and managing the day- to-day execution of the Coalition’s objectives. Amongst other things, I am in charge of strategic planning, thought leadership, external representation, budget, team and stakeholder management for the Coalition's activities. I guide the Foundation's newly established, small but dedicated policy team based in Brussels, promoting circular economy policies at EU and international level (e.g. OECD, G20). My work will focus on strengthening the links between the European and global policy agenda with the Foundation's systemic initiatives on plastics, fashion and food, including through post-Covid19 recovery programmes, the EU's renewed Sustainable Finance Strategy and the implementation of the EU Circular Economy Action Plan 2.0.

- Advocated for an effective policy approach supporting the transition towards a circular economy in Europe and the promotion of resource-saving business models. - Launched the campaign platform ‘Make Resources Count’ to impact effectively the development and implementation of the EU Action Plan for the Circular Economy. - Responsible for fundraising, project management and budget.

- Led policy development, strategic communications, stakeholder dialogues, and collaboration with business on climate, energy, transport and natural resources. - Worked on advocacy, publications, media, events and projects both on (sub-)national and international level (EU, UNFCCC). - Responsible for managing personnel and budget for 15-20 persons in 5 teams.

- Set strategic focus on conservation aspects, public acceptance and conflict resolution with regard to the expansion of renewable energy and grid planning. - Pushed successfully efforts to integrate energy and resource efficiency into concepts for the renovation of the building stock.

Senior Consultant for the German federal government ́s campaign “Local Alliances for Families”: - Managed public relations and facilitated the creation of more than 40 stakeholder networks together with municipalities, companies and civil society organizations. - Developed adequate working structures to actively engage regional actors and supported implementation of project ideas how to tackle demographic change.

- Successfully identified/ engaged key interest groups in multi-stakeholder processes. - Developed and implemented communication strategies and concepts for dialogue and cooperation on sustainable development both for public and private clients. - Organised, chaired, moderated meetings, working-groups and conferences. Processed and disseminated relevant information to the respective target groups. - Responsible for acquisition of new clients, team/ project management, and budget.

A 10-month team consulting project in the area of business sustainability is an integral part of the Diploma in Sustainable Business program. It is a unique opportunity for participants to engage in real-life projects with companies and work as advisors on strategic sustainability problems.
