Mag. Christiaan Boonzaier

I'm currently managing a Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn profile for Stellenbosch University's Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. In the past, I've also: edited captions for an online educator; conducted archival research for a film and TV producer; wrote articles for various publications; sourced guests for a new documentary TV series; edited two novels; wrote two short-film scripts; and proofread a range of academic work in six countries.

I conducted interviews and wrote 1 115 data-journalism stories, in-depth and investigative features, news articles, obituaries, profiles, and reviews about the arts in South Africa; I wrote roughly 7 000 words a week for Netwerk24 (website) and three, Afrikaans daily newspapers. I also enriched and published arts stories in a CMS, and attended news meetings, pitched stories, liaised with the head of news, and worked with page-layout artists to compile the newspapers’ arts pages, in my editor's absence.

I proofread a range of above-the-line (TV and radio scripts) as well as below-the-line advertisements (banners, brochures, bunting, decals, flyers, leaflets, in-store posters and signage, packaging, pamphlets, shelf labels, stickers, and style guides, among other things) that focussed on work produced for the retail giant Pick n Pay. I also translated various types of published and unpublished advertising copy from English to Afrikaans.

I copy-edited and proofread an introduction and 10 academic research articles for the journal "Comparativ: A Journal of Global History and Comparative Studies", as part of an unpaid internship at the university's Sonderforschungsbereich 1199.

I conducted interviews and wrote articles (news, science, technology); I also translated wire copy (English–Afrikaans). I produced the news podcast "Nuusdag met Niekie" (sourcing guests, writing and copy-editing scripts) and managed Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter profiles (posting / boosting content, executing campaigns, analysing metrics, moderating comments). Finally, I supervised as weekend editor (editing / fact-checking copy, processing / enriching stories in a CMS, writing headlines / headings).

I conducted interviews and wrote features and profiles, as well as entertainment, health, lifestyle, and news articles. I also edited a weekly music page, which involved interviewing; writing CD reviews, music-news snippets, and stories; managing a pool of freelancers; and liaising with page-layout artists. Additionally, I managed the Ubuntu Dream Big project, which lent a helping hand to readers in need (identifying readers, interviewing and writing articles, sourcing sponsorships that could aid them).

I proofread a range of below-the-line advertisements (banners, brochures, bunting, decals, flyers, in-store posters and signage, leaflets, mobisites, packaging, pamphlets, shelf labels, stickers, and style guides, among other things), as well as a few through-the-line and above-the-elements, like scripts for radio infomercials. I also wrote copy for below-the-line advertisements, as well as 34's agency material (press releases, website copy).

I conducted article research for the magazines "Eat In", "Eat Out", and "Time Out Cape Town", during a month-long internship.

I wrote news articles during a four-week long internship (throughout 2008) for EikestadNuus, a community newspaper.
