My films are about the "adventure of the real", interpreting Jean Rouch's famous definition of finding cinematic truth and beauty in the real world. After graduating with Andrea Camilleri in Rome and spending a decade in fiction, I turned to documentaries, at first focusing on culture and music. From 2015, my films became "political" and have stayed so ever since... With THE SIEGE OF MECCA (https://mecca1979.com) I uncovered the battle for the Great Mosque of Mecca in 1979 that gave birth to religiously motivated Islamist terrorism. My next film BIG BANG OF THE PRESENT (http://1979bigbang.com) demonstrated why the year 1979 (and not 1989) marked the economic, political and religious beginning of our modern era. And with my new project DOOMSDAY - PUSH BACK THE CLOCK (https://doomsday.outremerfilm.com) I will focus on the greatest man-made threats to mankind - and the only organization in the world that warns about them, while at the same time proposing actionable solutions.

In 2017, with THE SIEGE OF MECCA he uncovered the battle for the Great Mosque of Mecca that changed world history in 1979 and led to the birth of religious terrorism. His film BIG BANG OF THE PRESENT showed why the year 1979 marked the beginning of our era. Dirk is currently working on DOOMSDAY, about the greatest man-made threats to mankind.
