Dr. Emily Dunn

I am part of the Health and Disability Branch of the Population of Social Statistics Divison. I am part of a team that produces national statistics related to the health and wellbeing of Australians, for example, prevalence of health conditions, habits related to physical activity, nutritional consumptions and alcohol consumption. I use quantitative statistical methods, analytical coding, and critical thinking to perform analysis on data and write reports for publication.

I engaged with university academics, applied sport scientists, coaches, and athletes, to identify relevant and meaningful research questions. I problem solved quickly and provided direction in changing environments whilst ensuring objectives were achieved. I coordinated and conducted laboratory and field-based physical testing sessions for boxing, judo and taekwondo. Within my team, I coordinated high performance camps to deliver world-class training and education for Australia’s best combat athletes.

I assisted the tutor to deliver practical content for Regional and Systemic Anatomy and Physiology. I used adaptable communication and teaching skills to accommodate multiple learning styles and effectively tutor small groups of students. I worked with human and animal cadavers, while maintaining professionalism, respect for specimens, personal, group and specimen safety, and hygiene while effectively teaching the relevant content. I also enforce laboratory workplace health and safety procedures.

My key role was to conduct safety and equipment inductions for residents and carry out regular safety checks and maintenance on all equipment. In addition, provide personal assistance and direct supervision of college residents utilising the gymnasium by ensuring a safe, hygienic and controlled environment, and provide advice and ongoing instruction to residents when requested.

My research included performance analysis, reliability assessment, correlational analysis and intervention studies. I think critically about causations and trends to draw meaning from data. I apply findings to broad populations and publish in high impact peer-reviewed journals with broad readership
