My outpatient practice caters to those seeking to make their lives more productive and enjoyable through the treatment of mental
emotional or behavioral problems. Some come to me with long histories of treatment attempts without satisfactory results... and some come to me as their first attempt at getting professional help. I'm oriented to the medical model as my training has taken me from an undergraduate focus on Biology & Psychology
through medical school and it's focus on human physiology in health & disease. Next
I spent four years in specialty training in psychiatry
the biology and psychology of human thought and behavior
in health and illness. As human beings are inherently capable of growth and change
I am an eternal optimist about their ability to heal and achieve better emotional balance and higher functional capacity. That could be in the sphere of their professional or working-day world
or in the quality of their relationships... with family members or a significant other
or perhaps the sphere of their own personal health. The category of behaviors that fit the description of "self-destructive" is large and diverse- everything from poor nutrition
inadequate attention to physical fitness
to chemical dependency/addiction to behavioral problems such as "social anxiety"
obsessive-compulsive traits... or even nail biting! Whatever the problem(s)
I like to take a fresh look at it
exploring both biological and psychological components
searching for the most effective approach at moving my patients forward. My particular practice is one where I rarely see a patient for any time period less than 30 minutes and sometimes
for as long as three hours... though the vast majority of appointments are for one hour. I have no interest in simply running down a "symptom checklist" and whipping out a prescription pad- sadly
there are too many other clinics that only offer that type of approach. I like to get to know my patients as intersting people with a unique story to tell!
