Dr. Magdalene Seiler

Lead researcher of the retina project of the Keirstead Research group at UC Irvine with the goal of developing human embryonic stem cells to transplantable 3-D sheets of retinal progenitor cells for vision restoration. In addition, continued research on fetal retinal sheet transplants.Currently working on preparations for further clinical trials of retinal sheet transplantation outside U.S.

Assistant Professor (research), with dual appointment in Ophthalmology and Cell & Neurobiology. Research in retinal transplantation and retinal stem cells. Co-investigator on FFB grant "Functional integration after neuronal retinal transplantation" (P.I. E. de Juan, later; S. Sadda) that was renewed in 2005, and grants from private funds; PI on SBIR subcontract (2004-2005).

Assistant Professor, with dual appointments in the Depts. of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences, and Anatomy & Neurobiology. Taught Medical Microanatomy from 1993 - 2001 (7 years), and different graduate courses in both departments. Research in retinal transplantation and retinal stem cells; supervised up to 2 technicians and 6 post-docs, as well as several summer undergraduate students. Research was recognized with 5 prizes in different categories in “Research Louisville” in the years 1999-2000.

Research Associate (-1988), then Scientific Associate I(-1991) and Sci. Assoc. II (-1992). Retinal transplantation studies. P.I.: Alan Adolph, Ph.D. Supervisor: Robert B. Aramant, Ph.D. Co-investigator on NIH grant EY08519 (P.I. Robert Aramant; start 1991). This work resulted in 6 publications and 4 reviews between 1990 and 1992.

Post-doc (Research Associate). Retinal transplantation studies. P.I.: James E. Turner, Ph.D. This work resulted in 2 peer-reviewed publications and 3 reviews between 1988 and 1989.
