During the late 1990s Michael started as a Computer Science and Engineering student at the University of Melbourne. During the first few years he opened a few sole trader companies in the Entertainment, Design and Software spaces. The most successful enterprise was Flux Engineering, a software company which delivered elegant user interface and back end solutions across design, print and online. Michael was Co-Founder, Creative Director and Online Director at Cassette. Strongly design and print orientated at its inception in 2004, Cassette moved to add web / online services off the back of Michael's direction and software company Flux Engineering. Cassette was another of Michael's successful enterprises and had a wide range of SME and National Clients across multiple categories including; Spotless, Bettina Liano, Kay&Burton, Roy Clothing, NoodleBox, NetWealth and Melbourne Central.

Michael contracted his company Beaker Communications to M&C Saatchi in London for just over a year during the dot com boom. Michael worked across Project Management, Web Design and User Experience from both Melbourne and London for notable clients including; MG Cars, Rover, UK Police Force and Toni&Guy.

Michael's first official Pty Ltd company was Beaker Communication. Partnering with another entrepreneur the business set the foundations of Michael's corporate and commercial expertise. Along with day to day business operations, Michael would start to season his ability to wear many hats working across Graphic Design, Print, New Media, Website and Software Development. At the height of the dot com boom, Beaker was contracted and situated in London within eminent international agency M&C Saatchi.
