Visiting Researcher
Norwegian Center for Human Rights
I am attached to the interdisciplinary MultiRights Project (www.multirights.net) funded by the European Research Council. My research portfolio centers on the analysis of the legitimacy of international human rights institutions and judiciaries. I particularly examine the relationships between domestic, regional, and international courts with a special emphasis on recent reform proposals relating to the European Court of Human Rights as well as theories of civil disobedience.
2009 - 2011
Senior Partner Assistant
Lalive Advocats, Geneva, Switzerland
My chief responsibility was the logistical management of an extensive case load for a Senior Partner involving disputes between states and multinational corporations in construction, industrial engineering and infrastructure projects, natural resources (in particular oil and gas), pharmaceuticals and telecommunications. At any one time, these duties involved balancing a wide spectrum of documents and projects on numerous cases in multiple countries.
2005 - 2007
Lecturer in American Studies
Tsinghua University (清华大学), Beijing, China
I was employed as a university lecturer in American Studies. Over the course of two years, I instructed more than 400 Chinese graduate and undergraduate students through lectures, examinations, and research projects. Also during this period, I was retained by The People’s Daily Newspaper (人民日报) as an expert on American politics, policy, and foreign affairs. Established in Beijing in 1911, Tsinghua is the highest-ranked and most prestigious university in mainland China.
2002 - 2005
Assistant Editor
International Relations Journal, Aberystwyth, UK
My position was the central hub to coordinate the work of ten to twelve individuals at a time who were scattered across the globe. Carrying the collated work to completion involved the complex planning and implementation of their production schedules. Headquartered in the first department of international relations in the world and the oldest university in Wales, International Relations is a peer-reviewed journal published by SAGE.
