Step-by-step documentation of the certification process of the EU MDR 2017/745 and the USA FDA (21 CFR Part 820) has been created, titled "Comparison and decision tree for medical device certification Pathways." Based on this documentation, a decision tree for medical device companies to go for EU MDR or FDA has been created. The decision tree is then evaluated on two examples of Magdeburg-based medical device startups i.e EasyJector GmbH as a class IIa (MDR) and SURAG Medical GmbH as a class Is (MDR).
