Design engineer, creating 2D- and 3D-AutoCAD drawings from scratch. This included drawing complete design solutions based only upon a rough guideline of what kind of product is required. Some drawings were designs of plant-earthing. Others detailed product drawings. These 3D designs were the basis for the then following detailed manufacturing drawings, which I drew in compliance with Australian Standards. I also wrote a huge program in VBA which surprised my employer in a positive manner.

Design engineer for automotive switches and lighting products: I worked on the design of new switchgear products and on the improvement of current products in regards of quality, design, manufacturability and costs. In the design department were several engineers working on different switches. After a switch designed by another engineer became a huge liability problem, due to faults nobody else in the company could explain, I was tasked with this problem and quickly found a number of issues with it.

I was in charge of the design and supplier selection for the heater blower switch (30A) and heater blower resistors for all Ford-carlines, which is a critical issue as American Engineers making wrong decisions, showed: Due to their wrong decisions, cars in the US went up in flames, while being parked in the garage. As this was such a critical issue, they took me on board for the job. I investigated in detail the connectors and connector coatings.

Mayor management responsibility: As PMST Leader I was responsible for he correct electrical design of all interior switches of the Jaguar X-Type. Deciding, what can be used as carry-over from the Ford Mondeo; check of current loads; influencing the Jaguar stylists in the optical design of the switches to reduce the number of different switch versions required and such reducing costs. . I was overlooking all stages of the development of various switches by various suppliers.

This involved the simulation of the electronic functions on the computer to find eventual faults long before the design of the actual parts would commence, i.e. this was FMEA in a very early stage during the development process.

As Engineer in the Ford Puma Launch Team I was responsible for the processing of "alerts" and "concerns" (using the programme WERS) and as such it was my role to make sure that each group of engineers working on different components in the final development of the Ford Puma (a sports car) is always up to date with current issues in their field of responsibilities and with issues of other fields playing into their areas as well.

Engineer in fields of product quality assurance. Using the Ford specific program WERS, which is a data-base-program, to generate lists of interest of common faults of selected parts (using information gathered during warranty repairs) for the purpose of improving quality.
Project engineer for harness (loom) design: It was on me to find the optimal routing of the looms in the Ford Ka during the development phase. This included difficult issues like finding optimal solutions for the wiring around hot-spots in the engine compartments, the prevention of rubbing of looms on other parts, esp. on sharp edges, and the selection of the correct wire diameters to avoid future failures during the lifetime of the car.
