Dr. Stefan Thaler

I am specialized in machine learning, mobile- and web development. I spent most of my professional life at the intersection of cutting-edge academic research and hands-on software engineering. I am curious by nature, a quick learner and I bring systematic academic thinking combined with solid software development skills and hands on machine learning experience to the table.

After successfully finishing my Ph.D. at TU Eindhoven, I took a few months off. I traveled through Europe, hiked parts of the Saint James way in France, Spain and Portugal and stayed in Portugal for a bit longer. I used the time to read, dive into the local cultures, and work on my own projects.

Throughout my Ph.D. I collected in-depth knowledge about machine learning, both practical and theoretical. My main research focus was on the development of deep learning methods for Information Security, in particular forensic log analysis. I also gained knowledge about machine learning in health care settings. I worked mostly with Python, Numpy, Jupyter, Matplotlib, Tensorflow and Keras.

I spent around 2.5 years as a member of the TU/e W&I Ph.D./PDEng council, where I helped to improve the work experience of my fellow Ph.D. students by organizing professional and social events, communicating with the department board and dealing with problems that arose.

During my time at mohemian my main responsibilities were full-stack Android development in Java as well as full-stack backend- and frontend web development, in particular using Rails, jQuery, and Bootstrap. During this time I developed a carsharing app and parkinglot sharing app from scratch to market, and maintained and extended two more apps.

During my time at the STI Innsbruck, I developed a variety of research prototypes in the domain of the Semantic Web, mainly written in J2EE and Ruby on Rails. Additionally, I authored and contributed to scientific publications as well as EU project deliverables.

TO-role in the the efforts to build a high tech IT spin-off around Social Media and Semantic Web Technologies.

During my time at Holzweg, I worked as full-stack web developer (PHP, MySQL, JSP, CSS, HTML).

During my time at Datenverarbeitung Tirol, I contributed to migration of the Web-portal of the Tyrolean government to Typo3.
