Robb Montgomery

Montgomery built the Smart Film School to include hundreds of video tutorials that teach mobile journalism and multimedia storytelling techniques. These online course packs are used by the United Nations, Thomson Reuters Foundation, Journalism Co UK and university journalism schools worldwide. Montgomery lectures at top international journalism conferences and has written two academic textbooks that have been translated into German/ Mobile Journalism and Smartphone Video Storytelling.

Founder of non-profit charity that provides peer-to-peer educational opportunities for visual editors, journalists and filmmakers working in newsrooms around the globe. The non-profit organizes the mobile journalism awards competition.

Robb Montgomery teaches digital and mobile journalism in more than 40 countries. He produces courses and workshops at university journalism schools across Europe, Asia, USA, and Middle East. His workshops, seminars, and for-credit courses focus on multimedia reporting, broadcast video production and visual editing - all infused with design-thinking methods to help students innovate on deadline.

Worked as a senior editor in the newsroom and the principal designer in the 2003 redesign of the Chicago Sun-Times. He also served as Page One editor and and designed many of the paper's award-wining news investigations.

Robb's redesign of Sun Publications was honored in 2000 by the Society of News Design and profiled in March of 2001 in Update magazine. The staff of Sun Publications won numerous awards from the Pictures of the Year competition, the Illinois Press Association and the Society of News Design for outstanding documentary photojournalism and presentation.

Robb won two bronze awards from the Society of News design for the design of the greoundbreaking KidNews section. A weekly edition of the paper produced for 8-to-12-year-olds. After 18 months of designing KidNews, Robb was the art director for The Arts, Friday, Good Eating, Transportation and Your Money sections.

Founding art director for the Fort-Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel's alternative magazine. Won seven first-place Florida Press Club awards in 1990 for the design, graphics and visual editing. No recommendations for this position
