Dow in Switzerland
Dow has been present in Switzerland since 1974. At our regional headquarters and R&D hub in Horgen, we oversee business activities in Europe, Middle East,, and Africa and India. In Horgen, we also conduct development for a wide range of applications such as the latest generation of insulation materials for fridges and buildings, packaging materials and adhesives for the automotive industry. At our R&D center in Freienbach (SZ), Dow scientists work on the latest customer applications for wind energy, building and construction, automotive and infrastructure. Our production site in Buchs (SG) manufactures quality products for a wide range of industries, including personal care, and that are shipped to customers across Europe and beyond. Our office/lab in Lucerne provides technical support for the electronics and surface finishing industry.
During the expansion to Europe in 1952, the company chose Zurich as the location for its first European sales office. Now Dow is represented by an ample network of production and sales offices in over 40 countries in the EMEAI region.
In 1974, Dow moved into its headquarters for Europe, Middle East, Africa (EMEA) in Horgen (Zurich). This also includes India (EMEAI) since 2014. As the headquarters, Dow manages all business in the EMEAI region, which includes 14,000 employees. In Horgen itself, there are more than 650 employees in the fields of Business Management, Marketing & Sales, Research & Development and Finance, HR, Law and Communications. Switzerland, with its location in the heart of Europe, is the ideal location for the headquarters of Dow EMEAI because of the efficient infrastructure, stable legal and tax system, highly skilled workforce, and high quality of life.
A total of more than 700 employees from 51 countries work for Dow in Switzerland. In addition to the headquarters in Horgen, the company has other production and research facilities in Switzerland: The production facility for our ‘Consumer Care’ business Dow Microbial Control in Buchs SG, the technical customer service for applications in our ‘Electronics’ division in Littau LU, and our application development in the automotive sector in Freienbach SZ.
