Headquartered in Carson City, Nevada, and formerly known as Niotan Incorporated, the KEMET Blue Powder Corporation (KBP) is a subsidiary of the KEMET Corporation that is primarily concerned with the manufacture of tantalum powder. KBP, since its acquisition of Niotan, supports a comprehensive EICC/GeSi Conflict-Free Smelter (CFS) compliance program and acts as an integral participant in the Partnership for Social and Economic Sustainability (PSES). Operating in cooperation with Africa’s Democratic Republic of Congo, the PSES initiative strives to produce tantalum powder in a completely conflict-free and socially sustainable manner.

The KEMET Corporation officially announced its acquisition of Niotan Incorporated in March of 2012. The acquisition of Niotan allowed the newly-formed KEMET Blue Powder Corporation to secure exclusive rights to the industrial materials of South Africa’s Tantalite Resources (TR), a leading processor of tantalum ore. TR transforms raw tantalum ore into a transitional product called K-Salt. KBP then uses this K-Salt to produce its capacitor-grade tantalum powder.
