Leonardo Leyva Amezcua

My main activities in ADM involve the digitalization and monitoring of water and wastewater processes within a set of wastewater treatment plants in the EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa) and APAC (Asia Pacific) regions. I am in charge of the optimization of the plants through the continuous evaluation of KPIs (Key Performance Indicators). I am also involved in the development of new wastewater and biogas projects.

My doctoral research focuses on wastewater treatment through alternative flocculation and adsorption materials and processes. The main goal is to evaluate the feasibility of increasing the local water treatment capabilities in the case study area at a low cost.

This project was developed in collaboration with the Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH) and the Hamburg Open Online University (HOOU). It aimed to produce open access e-learning material focusing on using regenerative agricultural practices for the improvement of soil and groundwater quality. My main tasks in this position were project planning and management. This included coordinating and supervising the production of digital educational content, which has been published on https://hoou.tuhh.de/.

I was in charge of planning and conducting Technology and Competitive Intelligence. This consists in assessing innovations using suitable indicators, exploring their market potential, identifying technological and market trends, as well as finding partners and promoting their cooperation for bringing the inventions to the market I also conducted patent searches, Freedom-to-Operate, Patentability, and Infringement studies. Project management and customer consultancy were also integral parts of my activities

As Laboratory Analyst I was in charge of planning and conducting tablet-coating experiments to evaluate the suitability of new ingredients or processes according to the customer´s requirements. I was also responsible for supervising the order and safety in the laboratory, as well as purchasing laboratory materials.

Temporary position as an interim Teacher of Bioprocesses and Bioengineering. I taught both theoretical classes and laboratory sessions to Bachelor students in their final (7th and 9th) semesters within the Biochemical Engineering study program.

The Master´s Program is focused on Environmental Engineering and Management. In this period, I conducted the following projects: - Master Thesis: “Comparison of centralized and decentralized modeled scenarios of wastewater treatment in Mexico City Metropolitan Area". - Project Work: "Anaerobic digestion of blackwater and mixtures of co-substrates in 10-L scale semi-continuous reactors".

First semester of the Master´s Program. It provided insights into the economic and social dimensions of the environmental studies, making this Master a multidisciplinary program

Bachelor´s degree with a study plan of 9 semesters on a full-time basis. Thesis: "Isolation of a microbial community able to degrade chlorophenols for the treatment of wastewater in a fixed-bed reactor"
