As the "Translation Services" side of the company, I specialise in general technical translation, as well as translating website content, press releases and sport-related documentation (predominantly cycling). I use SDL Trados translation software and Across to ensure the work is carried out efficiently and accurately. I also review and edit translations from other translators for the German to English or English to German language combination, as well as reviewing documents originally written in English.

I worked on projects to translate software and documents. Work also involved converting text from US to UK English, DTP checks of finished documents in final layout, terminology compilation, translation memory management and source text qualification. Other duties involved people and project management, including scheduling work internally, outsourcing work to freelance translators and assessing the quality of finished translations.

As a translator and project manager for the organisation, I was responsible for translating text from German into English. This included press releases, presentations and technical data. I also carried out integration and quality control of output from freelancers and maintained terminology consistency.

This role provided me with invaluable practical experience working in-house at a small agency. During this time, I learned how to manage multi-language translation projects from receipt of the source text from the customer right up to linguistic sign-off of proofs.
